Guidelines for attending an Abbey Service
The Abbey’s top priority is the safety of our congregation, visitors, staff and volunteer team and so things will look a little different for a while. We have put new measures in place to make things COVID-19 secure, although it is important to remember that even with the actions we have taken to protect us all, the risk of transmission of COVID-19 can’t be entirely eliminated which is why we will be continuing to run our online service for the foreseeable future. The most recent online services can be viewed here (click link) and all previous services can be found on our YouTube page (click here).
If you or any of your household:
- feel unwell
- show or have shown any symptoms of COVID-19 (or have been in close contact with someone who has) within the last 14 days
- have been diagnosed with COVID-19 (or been in close contact with someone who has) within the last 14 days
- have been asked to self-isolate under the NHS Test and Trace scheme or have returned from a country outside of the UK government exemption list in the last 14 days
We would kindly ask you to please stay at home and join us via our weekly online service.
When booking, we collect your data for the NHS Test and Trace scheme as requested by the government. We will only share your name, contact number, date of attendance, arrival time and departure time with the NHS if requested.
If you have any accessibility requirements, please email us on office@malmesburyabbey.com after booking your ticket so that we can review suitable options to support.
On arrival you will need to stay with your household or bubble and ensure you remain socially distanced from other groups.
You’ll need to have your own face covering (unless you have a legitimate reason for not doing so), ready to wear whilst you’re with us – and take home with you after the service.
On arrival we will tick your name off on our list of pre-booked tickets.
We’ll ask everyone to use the hand sanitisers as they enter the building.
Please follow the instructions of the hosting team as they show you where your group should sit.
Services:
Our services will run for about 1 hour initially, and involve presentation songs from the Abbey choir or a small group of contemporary musicians (congregation singing isn’t currently permitted)
Communion will be taken at some of our services with wafers only.
Bibles will not be provided and so we encourage people to bring their own.
Venue:
Please make sure you keep your distance from others. We know it will be lovely to see everyone and catch up over a chat, but please don’t block the thoroughfare when entering and exiting.
Toilets will not be open except for emergencies.
Hand sanitising stations will be available at the entrance and exits of the church for you to use regularly.
Please sit with your household or bubble and keep two chairs distance from others. The hosting team will help you with this.
We won’t be passing around offering bowl or gift aid envelopes so if you’d like to give, we’d love for you to do that online or there will be a bowl available at the back of church.
We are not able to provide refreshments or water stations at the moment, so please bring a bottle of water with you – and take it home with you after the service.
Children
Children are welcome to join you at church. However, we are not running our Junior Church groups yet.
You’ll need to make sure they each have a ticket, and are sat with you during the service.
Children under 11 are exempt from needing to wear a face covering.
Post-Service
Whilst we’re learning and tweaking our processes, we’ll be grateful for any feedback after the service – please email to office@malmesburyabbey.com
If you (or someone in your household or bubble) start to experience any COVID-19 symptoms or receive a positive COVID-19 test result, please inform our team as soon as possible via office@malmesburyabbey.com
Recording/LiveStreaming
Some of our services are recorded/live streamed onto our website and YouTube page. If you would prefer not to be in shot for any reason please contact office@malmesburyabbey.com or speak to one of our stewards who will direct you to seats that will not be included in the recording.
We look forward to welcoming you in person or online.
