FOMA - The Friends of Malmesbury Abbey
The Friends exist to cherish the history and beauty of the Abbey, to preserve and enhance its fabric, ornaments and furnishings and to provide a channel of support.
Malmesbury Abbey has been here as a centre of worship and pilgrimage since the monastery was founded more than thirteen centuries ago. Through their faith and inspiration generations of worshippers and pilgrims have striven to enrich the glory of the Abbey, a fragment of which we see here today.
The Friends of Malmesbury Abbey was founded on May 25th 1945 - St Aldhelm's Day - under the leadership of the then vicar, Rev Arthur Beaghen. In the years since then they have worked continuously
- providing support
- raising funds
- managing repair projects
- producing booklets about the Abbey, its history and the people associated with it
- organising social events
They plan to continue to cooperate with the PCC and all good friends of the Abbey, whatever their persuasion, to preserve and enhance the Abbey for the benefit of the present generation and for generations to come.
